What is a 24V 30 amp battery charger — and who is it for?

A 24V 30 amp battery charger pushes up to 30 amps of DC current into a 24-volt battery bank — in India, almost always two 12V batteries connected in series, as found in trucks, tippers, buses, JCBs, forklifts and larger DG sets. At the top step, its 30A maximum output can provide substantially more charging current than a 10A charger, making it suitable for larger banks and shorter charging windows. A six-step knob marked Minimum to Maximum sets the charging current, and the charger regulates the current itself according to the battery's condition. Two modes cover the whole job: Charging (Boost) to bring the bank back, and Maintenance (Float) to maintain it at the charger's specified float level for standby use, when that voltage is appropriate for the battery. This Samco Battery model is a high-frequency SMPS charger with a 160–280V AC input range designed to accommodate a wide range of mains supply conditions.

Where this 24V 30A charger fits

Heavy commercial vehicle fleets — Tata, Ashok Leyland and Eicher trucks, tippers and buses — plus JCB backhoes and earthmovers, forklift and electric stacker traction batteries, DG set starter banks, telecom and industrial 24V installations, and 24V solar storage.

Using the 6-step knob in 5 steps

  1. Confirm the bank is 24V — two 12V batteries in series.
  2. Find the battery maker's recommended charging current (a common guide is 10% of Ah — the top step's 30A suits ~300Ah).
  3. Connect the clamps — red to positive first, then black.
  4. Switch on, step the knob to the setting closest to the recommended current, and watch the live meter.
  5. When the bank is charged, leave it on Float for maintenance — or switch off and disconnect.

What the 24V 30 amp charger is used for in India

🚛 Truck, tipper & bus fleet benches

The depot workhorse. HCV starter banks come through the bench all day; at the top 30A step, the higher charging current can reduce charging time for larger battery banks.

🚜 JCB & earthmover banks

Backhoe loaders, excavators and haulage tippers run 24V starters. A dead machine at site costs idle days — suitable for workshop charging where a higher charging current is required.

🏭 Forklift & stacker traction banks

24V traction batteries of 200–300Ah where a smaller charger would run most of a day. Float mode maintains the bank between shifts for standby use; for smaller stacker banks, see the 24V 20A FCBC.

⚡ DG sets & industrial standby

Starter banks for larger gensets and industrial 24V installations. The wide 160–280V AC input range is designed to accommodate a wide range of site supply conditions.

📡 Telecom & power-room banks

Fast, measurable recharge of 24V backup banks within a service window — the ammeter shows exactly what's going in.

☀️ 24V solar storage

Larger off-grid banks topped up from mains after a stretch of cloudy, low-generation days. For benches that also handle 12V, see the dual-voltage range.

Setting the current: choose the step closest to the battery maker's specified charging current without exceeding it — a common starting guide is 10% of Ah capacity, but the manufacturer's specification always takes priority. GEL batteries: GEL specifies a lower charging voltage than flooded or AGM cells, so the charger is configured for GEL before dispatch — tell us it is a GEL battery when you order; it is not a setting you change on the front panel. Charge in a ventilated space and check the battery periodically while it is connected.

24V 30 amp battery charger — FAQs

What is the price of a 24V 30 amp battery charger in India?

Samco Battery's 24V 30 amp automatic charger costs ₹11,253 including GST, with free shipping to 19,000+ pincodes. You're buying direct from the Delhi manufacturer, so there's no distributor margin in the price — and battery dealers, fleet operators and bulk buyers get lower wholesale rates on request.

What size 24V bank is a 30A charger suited to — and is 30A too much for smaller batteries?

At the common 10%-of-Ah guideline, the top 30A step matches a 300Ah bank, and the knob steps down for anything smaller — the practical range is about 100Ah to 300Ah. For a 150Ah bank, keep the knob on a lower step (about 15A). If most of your charging is 100–150Ah, the ₹5,169 24V 15A model is the more economical fit. The battery maker's specified charging current always takes priority over any guideline.

How does the six-step current knob work?

The knob selects the charging current in six steps, marked Minimum to Maximum, delivering up to 30 amps at the top step. The charger regulates the current by itself according to the battery's condition — a discharged battery draws more, a nearly full one draws less — and the digital ammeter shows the current live. Set the step closest to the battery maker's recommended current; a common starting guide is 10% of Ah capacity.

How do I know whether my system is 24V?

Two 12V batteries joined in series make a 24V bank — the standard setup in trucks, tippers, buses, most JCBs and larger DG sets. If your vehicle or machine has a single 12V battery, it needs a 12V charger, not this model.

Can I charge two 12V batteries in series?

Yes, when the two 12V batteries are of matched type, capacity, age and condition. Charging mismatched or unequally worn batteries in series is not recommended. A single 12V battery on its own needs a 12V charger.

Will it keep working when mains voltage fluctuates?

Yes — the 160–280V AC input range is designed to accommodate a wide range of mains supply conditions.

SMPS or transformer charger — which is better for a 24V bank?

An SMPS charger is generally more compact and lighter than a conventional iron-transformer charger, making a high-current 30A design easier to handle and install. Samco Battery has built chargers in Delhi since 2000; the digital SMPS range is its flagship.

How long does a full charge take?

A 300Ah bank at 50% state of charge has roughly 150Ah to replace. At an average charging current near 30A, the bulk calculation is about 5 hours, followed by additional time for the final charging stage. Actual charging time varies with battery condition, temperature, state of charge and the battery manufacturer's charging specifications.

Does it have a Float or maintenance mode?

Yes — two modes. Charging (Boost) brings the bank back up, and Maintenance (Float) maintains a charged battery for standby use. Continuous connection is appropriate only when the float voltage is suitable for the battery and permitted by the battery manufacturer's instructions. If your bank is smaller (roughly 40–150Ah) and lives on standby, the lower-current 24V 20A FCBC is the more economical float charger.

Does it work with GEL, AGM and sealed batteries?

Tubular, flat plate, SMF, VRLA and AGM lead-acid are supported directly, including the larger traction and standby banks this 30A model is built for. GEL needs a lower charging voltage, so the charger must be configured for GEL before dispatch — tell us when ordering; it isn't a front-panel setting. Not for lithium-ion or LiFePO4 batteries.

Will it charge a single 12V battery, or a 36V/48V bank?

No — output is 24V only. A single 12V battery needs a 12V charger, and 36V/48V banks are outside this model's range. For a bench that handles both, the dual-voltage 12V/24V range auto-detects the connected voltage.

Which vehicles and machines in India use a 24V system?

Heavy commercial vehicles — Tata, Ashok Leyland and Eicher trucks and tippers, most buses — plus JCB backhoe loaders and excavators, larger forklifts and stackers, big DG sets and 24V inverter/solar banks: all commonly run 24V from two 12V batteries in series.

Do you sell and deliver across Delhi NCR and the rest of India?

Yes — three tiers. All of Delhi: every area of the capital. All Delhi NCR cities: Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Sonipat, Bahadurgarh, Meerut, Panipat, Rohtak, Rewari, Palwal, Alwar and the rest of NCR.
