Quick answer

What does a 12V battery charger do — and which one do you need?

A 12V battery charger restores charge to 12-volt lead-acid batteries — bike, scooter, car, tractor, inverter, tubular and solar. Match the charger's amps to roughly 10% of the battery's Ah (a 60Ah car battery → 6A; a 150Ah inverter battery → 15A), and pick automatic cut-off at 14.6V so it can never overcharge.

Series or parallel · check before you connect

One 12V battery, or a 24V pair? Know the difference before you plug in.

Two 12V batteries in parallel stay at 12V and double the capacity — any charger here can charge that bank at the maker's specified current. Two 12V batteries in series become a 24V bank. No charger on this page can charge it: you'd need the 24V range or the dual-voltage 12V/24V models that auto-detect the bank.

⚡ Parallel: + to +

Positives joined, negatives joined. Voltage stays 12V; capacity adds up. A 12V charger handles it.

⚠️ Series: + to −

Negative of the first to positive of the second. Voltage doubles to 24V. A 12V charger cannot charge it.

🔍 Measure first

Read across the bank terminals before connecting. Near 12V → parallel or single. Near 24V → series pair.

Bank reads 24V? You need a different charger — see the 24 volt battery charger range or the dual-voltage 12V/24V models.

Buying guide · India

How to choose a 12V battery charger

Straight answers, no jargon — the same advice we give dealers on the phone.

How many amps should my 12V charger have?

Use the 10% rule: charger amps ≈ battery Ah ÷ 10. A 40Ah bike battery is happy on 3–4A, a 60Ah car battery on 6A, a 150Ah tubular inverter battery on 15A. Higher amps charge faster; lower amps are gentler. Every Samco card and the comparison table above lists the exact Ah range each model covers.

Automatic or manual — which is better?

Automatic chargers (3A, 6A) decide everything: they taper current and stop at 14.6V, so you can plug in overnight without worry. Variable chargers (10A–30A) let you set the current your battery maker specifies — useful for large tubular banks and deep-discharged batteries that need a gentle start. Automatic for daily use; variable for big or stubborn batteries.

Will it survive India's voltage fluctuations?

Yes. All eight chargers accept 160–280V AC input, so they keep charging through low-voltage evenings and generator supply — a common failure point for cheap chargers that expect a stable 230V.

Can I leave the charger connected overnight?

On the two automatic models and on every model with Float (10A analog, 10A variable, 20A FCBC, regeneration) — yes. They hold a safe float around 13.5–13.8V or stop at 14.6V. On plain variable models without float, disconnect once the ammeter tapers to near zero.

SMPS or old transformer charger — which should I buy?

SMPS chargers (all eight here) are lighter, run cooler and hold their output across a wide 160–280V input — far better suited to Indian mains than iron-core transformer units. High-frequency models like the 15A and 20A also charge more efficiently and show live current digitally.

How long will a full charge take?

Rough math: Ah ÷ amps, then add ~20% for the taper. A 60Ah car battery on the 6A takes about 10–12 hours. A 150Ah inverter battery on the 15A takes about the same. The 30A roughly halves the time on a 200Ah+ bank. Overnight charging is normal for tubular batteries.

My battery is "full" but dies fast. What now?

That points to sulphation — sulphate crystals hardening on the plates, which ordinary charging can't remove. The 15A Regeneration charger applies controlled desulfation pulses to recover capacity, then its Maintenance mode float-charges the battery. If it still fails after regeneration, the battery is due for replacement.

12V charger FAQs

The eight questions buyers ask us most. Something else? WhatsApp is faster.

Which 12V battery charger is best for a car battery?+
For 35–100Ah car and SUV batteries, the 12V 6A Automatic (₹2,055) is the best all-round pick: a safe daily rate, live volts and amps on the display, and auto cut-off at 14.6V. Small hatchback batteries down to 30Ah are fine on the 3A Automatic.
Can I charge my home inverter battery with a 12V charger?+
Yes — most home inverter batteries in India are single 12V tubular units of 100–220Ah. Use the 15A SMPS (₹4,206) for 100–180Ah or the 20A FCBC (₹7,782) for larger banks. If your bank reads 24V, you need a 24V charger instead.
Is delivery really free across India?+
Yes. Delivery is free to 19,000+ Indian pincodes and takes 3–7 working days — usually 1–3 days in Delhi NCR. Every order ships with a GST invoice. Order on this page or WhatsApp +91 99539 35912.
What warranty do Samco chargers carry?+
Every Samco charger carries a 6-month warranty against manufacturing defects, with a 3-day return window. Full policy on our warranty & returns page.
My battery bank reads 24V — will a 12V charger work?+
No. Two 12V batteries in series make a 24V bank, which needs a 24V charger — see the Samco 24V range or the dual-voltage 12V/24V models that auto-detect the bank. Two batteries wired in parallel (still 12V) can be charged together on these chargers.
Do you offer dealer or bulk pricing?+
Yes — Samco is the manufacturer. Battery shops, dealers and fleet buyers get wholesale slabs. WhatsApp +91 99539 35912 with your quantity for a same-day dealer quote.
Can these chargers charge GEL batteries?+
GEL batteries often specify a lower absorption voltage than 14.6V. The 10A variable model lets you set Boost and Float manually, making it the safer GEL choice — but confirm your battery's exact voltage spec with the maker first.
Can these charge lithium (LiFePO₄) batteries?+
No. This range is tuned for lead-acid chemistries — flooded, tubular, SMF, VRLA and AGM. Lithium-ion and LiFePO₄ packs need a dedicated lithium charging profile and should not be connected to these chargers.
