02 How FCBC works
What is a Float Cum Boost (FCBC) inverter battery charger?
FCBC stands for Float Cum Boost — the two modes a standby battery needs. Boost recharges a discharged bank at up to 20A: the six-step knob, marked Minimum to Maximum, sets the charging-current level while the charger regulates the output — actual charging current varies with battery voltage, state of charge and condition, so a deeply discharged battery draws more and a nearly full one draws less — with the digital ammeter showing the live reading and its natural taper as the battery fills. Float then maintains the battery within the charger's specified 13.5–13.8V range for standby maintenance, supplying only the small current that offsets self-discharge — a home inverter battery may remain connected during standby periods when the battery manufacturer's instructions permit continuous float charging. Choosing Boost or Float is your decision on a toggle switch — that is the “cum”. If you’d rather the charger decide everything and cut off by itself, the 12V 6A automatic charger does exactly that at 14.6V.
Bring the bank back up
Boost delivers up to 20A. The knob sets the level, the charger regulates the output, and the ammeter shows the current tapering as the bank fills — which is what makes the end of a charge visible.
Hold at 13.5–13.8V
Float maintains the battery within the charger's specified 13.5–13.8V range for standby maintenance, supplying only the small current needed to offset self-discharge — the mode a standby battery sits in between power cuts, where the battery maker permits continuous float charging.
You choose the mode
A manual toggle selects Boost or Float, the six-step knob sets the charging-current level, and the charger regulates the output from there. On a DG-set starter or a telecom bank, you decide when the charge stops and the maintenance begins.
03 Battery match

04 In use
How to charge an inverter battery — 3 simple steps
Connect and start low
Red clamp to positive (+), black to negative (–) with the charger unplugged. Start with the knob near Minimum, then switch to Boost.
Step up, watch the ammeter
Turn the knob towards Maximum a step at a time until the current sits where your battery maker specifies — a general reference is often around 10% of rated Ah for many lead-acid batteries, with the maker’s figure always taking priority. The charger regulates the output from there, and the reading tapers as the battery fills.
Switch to Float
Once charged, move the toggle to Float. The charger maintains 13.5–13.8V and supplies only what the battery needs to offset self-discharge — it may remain connected during standby periods when the battery manufacturer's instructions permit continuous float charging.
05 Applications
Where a 12V 20A FCBC charger is used across India
Tubular inverter & home UPS banks
The core job. 100Ah to 220Ah tubular batteries, charged on Boost and then maintained on Float so the bank stays ready between power cuts, where the battery maker permits continuous float charging.
12V solar storage
Off-grid banks needing a mains top-up after low-generation days, then maintained at 13.5–13.8V rather than left to self-discharge.
DG sets, AMF panels & telecom
Standby batteries that must crank or carry load first time after weeks idle. Float maintenance is what makes a permanently connected standby installation practical, where the battery maker permits continuous float charging. Heavier industrial duty has its own 12V industrial battery charger.
Inverter dealers & battery shops
Stock charging and pre-delivery top-up, with the knob kept low to match whatever battery is on the bench that hour.
Under 100Ah
Workable at reduced current, but the 12V 15A SMPS charger or the 12V 10A variable charger match the battery more closely — prices in the comparison below.
Above 220Ah, or 24V
Larger 12V banks want the 12V 30 Amp charger. For 24V inverter and traction banks — up to the 24V 30A model — see the 24 volt battery charger range.

09 FAQ
Inverter battery charger FAQs — answered
What is a Float Cum Boost (FCBC) charger?
An FCBC — Float Cum Boost — charger has two modes you select on the toggle: Boost recharges at up to 20 amps; Float maintains a charged battery within the charger's specified 13.5–13.8V range for standby maintenance, provided this voltage is appropriate for the particular battery. FCBC units can therefore remain connected between power cuts where the battery maker permits continuous float charging.
Where do I set the six-step knob? There are no amp markings.
Start towards Minimum, then step up while watching the digital ammeter until the current matches what your battery manufacturer specifies. As a general reference, charging current is often around 10% of rated Ah capacity for many lead-acid batteries — roughly 20A for a 200Ah bank, 10A for a 100Ah battery, less for smaller ones — but the battery manufacturer's specified charging current always takes priority. From there the charger regulates the output: actual current varies with battery voltage, state of charge and condition — a deeply discharged battery draws more, a nearly full one draws less — and the meter shows the live reading throughout. Send us the make, type and Ah rating on WhatsApp if the documentation does not say.
What is the price of a 12V 20A inverter battery charger in India?
The Samco Battery 12V 20A FCBC inverter battery charger costs ₹7,782 including GST, with free pan-India shipping to 19,000+ pincodes and Cash on Delivery available. Tiered dealer pricing applies for battery shops, inverter dealers and solar installers — send your quantity on WhatsApp for a trade quote.
Which charger is best for a 150Ah or 200Ah tubular inverter battery?
For many 100Ah–220Ah tubular inverter batteries, this 12V 20A FCBC charger is a suitable option, provided the battery manufacturer's charging-current and voltage specifications are compatible. It can push up to 20A on Boost for a full recovery, then maintain the bank on Float within the charger's specified 13.5–13.8V range between power cuts. Smaller 6A–15A chargers work but take roughly twice the time on a 200Ah bank, and the 15A SMPS has no Float mode.
Can the battery stay connected in Float mode between power cuts?
Yes — that is what Float is designed for, provided the 13.5–13.8V range suits your battery. The correct float voltage varies with battery type, manufacturer and temperature, so check the figure your battery maker specifies before leaving one connected indefinitely. Too high a float voltage increases overcharge risk; too low lets the battery slowly self-discharge.
What is the difference between an FCBC charger and a normal charger?
A normal charger only charges — switch it on, charge, switch it off. An FCBC charger also maintains: after Boost, Float mode maintains the battery within the charger's specified 13.5–13.8V range for standby maintenance, helping offset self-discharge when the specified float voltage is appropriate for the battery. That is why FCBC units are standard for DG sets, telecom banks and home inverters that must be ready at all times.
Can I charge a car battery with this 20A charger?
Yes, with the knob towards Minimum and an eye on the ammeter so the current stays within the charging current specified by the battery manufacturer — do not select current based solely on vehicle type or engine size. For a single car battery, though, the Samco Battery 12V 6A charger at ₹2,055 is the better buy — this 20A model earns its price on 100Ah+ tubular inverter banks, solar storage and workshops charging several batteries a day.
How long will a 200Ah battery take to charge?
Estimated bulk charging time ≈ amp-hours to be replaced ÷ actual charging current, followed by additional time for the final charging stage. For example, replacing about 100Ah at an actual 20A average current gives roughly 5 hours of bulk charging, with additional time required for the final stage. Actual time varies with depth of discharge, battery age, condition and temperature.
Does it work with GEL, AGM and sealed SMF batteries?
Tubular, flat plate, VRLA, SMF and AGM lead-acid batteries are all supported. The 13.5–13.8V Float range suits GEL too, but GEL specifies a lower Boost voltage than flooded cells, so confirm the Boost setting with Samco Battery before charging one. Not intended for lithium-ion or LiFePO₄ packs.
Is Cash on Delivery available? Do you provide a GST invoice?
Yes to both. Orders ship with a proper GST invoice, and you can pay by COD, UPI or bank transfer. Every charger is dispatched from our Delhi counter at 21 Gokhale Market, near Kashmere Gate Metro Station, Delhi 110054, India.
